Defeat To Donegal Completes Disappointing Weekend For Tyrone.
Sunday 26.05.2013
Tyrone lost out to Donegal in this afternoon’s Ulster senior championship clash to complete a miserable weekend for the county. The six point margin of defeat would appear to suggest a comfortable win for Jim Mc Guinness’s side but it was only after Donegal plundered a second goal midway through the second half that the home side managed to establish control of the game. The first half saw Tyrone take a while to settle and they trailed by three points after eight minutes. However once Colm Cavanagh and Conor Gormley wrestled control of the midfield the Red Hands gradually worked their way back into the game and with twenty six minutes of the half gone they moved 0-6 to 0-5 in front. Unfortunately for Mickey Harte’s side they allowed Colm Mc Fadden to sneak in for a goal just before the break which saw Donegal reach the break two points in front.
Tyrone began the second half in blistering form and drew level within five minutes following points from Sean Cavanagh and Justin Mc Mahon. However midway through the second period the home side once again managed to find the net through Ross Wherity and that goal gave them the advantage and the confidence to push for home. Tyrone finished the game with fourteen men after Joe Mc Mahon picked up a second yellow card but there was little they could do to prevent Donegal making it through to the semi final of the Ulster championship. for Mickey Harte and his team there is much to reflect on and learn from today as they now turn their sights on the draw for the qualifiers.
