St Joseph’s Donaghmore 2-15 3-12 St Patrick’s Academy Dungannon
St Patrick’s Academy staged the most unlikely of comebacks to snatch a point from the jaws of defeat. Trailing by five deep into injury time, a Liam McGeary penalty had left two between them before Aodhan Quinn levelled with the last kick of the game with a two pointer.
The result was harsh on Donaghmore who were the dominant side throughout.
St Joseph’s had opened the scoring when Adam Cushnahan’s penalty was saved by Ronan Donnelly at the expense of a point. Despite playing against the breeze Dungannon took a 4th minute lead when Matthew Daly palmed to the net.
Donaghmore hit nine points in a row which included a two point free from Cushnahan and a two point score from Ronan Lowe. St Joseph’s led 0-10 1-2 at the break.
An early Charlie Maguire goal narrowed the gap before Ruairi O’Neill and Finbar Quinn got scores for Donaghmore.
A brace of James Mulgrew points and further points from Maguire put Dungannon back in front.
Donaghmore regained the lead with eight minutes remaining after Cushnahan cooly converted a penalty. Frees from Eoin Long left two between but Larry Shields looked like he had secured victory with a goal in the final minute of normal time.
But the Academy’s late late revival saw them remain unbeaten and share the points with their near neighbours.
