Castlederg completed the Grade Four treble on Wednesday evening when they had eight points to spare over a very gallant Brackaville side. The game finished 2-13 to 1-8 in favour of the North Tyrone lads but Brackaville will look back on this game and wonder just how it finished with eight points between the sides.

Both teams swapped points early on and were tied at 0-2 apiece after eight minutes. A minute later team captain Castlederg Adam Clayton, who was superb throughout, put his team in front before Charlie Mooney landed his third point of the match to double their lead.

Brackaville were still creating chances but a mixture of inaccurate finishing, good goalkeeping and poor decision making saw them spurn several good scoring chances. Oisin Brady, Ronan Mc Hugh and Kyle O’Hagan looked more than capable of causing the Derg problems when they were given quality possession. However as the half wore on Cian Harper, Owen Mc Callion and Odhran Logue began to get on top and the possession they won allowed them to create numerous chances. Charlie Mooney, who had to leave the field injured just before the break finished the half with seven points while goals from Daire Corry and Shea Devlin just before the break sent the Derg in leading at the break on a score-line of 2-8 to 0-5.

The second half saw Owen Roes pair Oisin Brady and Christian Maxwell take control in the middle of the park. They had their opponents on the back foot for long periods of the half but found the Derg defence in resolute form. A Ronan Mc Hugh goal increased the Brackaville momentum but when they were needed most Castlederg’s defence dug deep. Goalkeeper Anton Lynch was superb as he denied the Brackaville attack on numerous occasions while his distribution relieved the pressure on his team many times in a tense but exciting second half.

The game ebbed and flowed with Brackaville creating chances but being denied scores through good defence and Castlederg playing on the counter attack through the strong running and good inter link play of Adam Clayton, Owen Mc Callion and Shea Devlin. Daire Corry landed five super second half scores to ensure his team withstood the challenge and completed a memorable treble.
