Derg Get Back To Winning Ways
Friday 16.08.2013
Castlederg got back to winning ways after three straight defeats with a hard fought victory in Glenmornan on a score line of 0-11 to 0-9 against Owen Roe O’Neills on Thursday evening for whom Brendan Boggs was outstanding. The home side were once more missing a clutch of players with Ronan Parker, Conor O’Neill, Conor Doherty and long term absentee Ryan Devine still missing, along with Gerard McShane and Cathal McShane who was on County duty with the Tyrone minor squad. However they were boosted by the return of Kevin O’Neill to senior colours after over a year out.
Mark Corry got the Derg men off to a bright start with a point in the opening minute. Shortly afterwards the home team equalized and then went a point up. Brian Coyle got on the end of a Tony Breen cross to punch over the bar to level the scores. A superb point from out on the side line from Mark Corry put the visitors side back in front. Owen Roes struck back with a point of their own and then went one ahead, only for Corry to bring the scores level again. Approaching the break the home team added on two points before Tony Breen from a free left one point between the teams at the interval. Just after the resumption Steafan Gallen swung over a long range effort to once again tie up the game. Paddy Lynch added another before Mark Corry widened the gap to two points. The home team rallied with a point of their own, before another long range effort from Corry kept the visitors’ noses in front. The Roes were making a massive effort at this stage to level the game and did manage two more points before John Gallagher from play and a Mark Corry long distance free finally ended their gritty resistance.
