Castlederg 1-12 Glenelly 0-13

At the second time of asking Castlederg advanced to the last eight of the Connollys of Moy Junior championship when they edged past Glenelly at Loughmacrory to set up a meeting with Castlederg.

GO POWER man of the match Corin McConnell had Castlederg’s opening two points with Lorcan McCullagh doing likewise for Glenelly. Glenelly then seized control from there until halftime. Harley Patton sent over a two pointer with McCullagh converting another free before Ronan O’Kane landed a quality effort from play. Castlederg ended a barren spell with the last score of the half from Eoghain Bradley but it was Glenelly who led 0-7 to 0-3.

Castlederg came out for the second half with all guns blazing and a brace of frees from McConnell saw the deficit halved. Aodhán McConnell opened Glenelly’s second half account with a fine score but in the 36^th minute Bradley got in behind their defence to thump the ball to the roof of the net.

Patton replied for Glenelly but it was clear that Castlederg had upped the tempo in the second period. A brilliant two pointer from out on the left wing from McConnell levelled matters only for McCullagh to edge Glenelly back in front. In the 51^st minute Corin McConnell raised another orange flag before Mark Kennedy levelled matters sixty seconds later.

With five minutes to go Daire Corry put the St.Eugenes back in front before a key moment in the game arrived when Glenelly midfielder Garrett O’Neill surged through but his effort for a goal was brilliantly saved by keeper Ryan McLaughlin. Castlederg made good their escape with wing half back Blaine Lynch sending over the insurance point as Glenelly finished the game with fourteen men.
