Derrylaughan Defeat Termon In Ulster Series
Sunday 03.11.2024
Tyrone Champions Derrylaughan proved too strong for their Donegal counterparts Termon in the Preliminary round of the Ulster Intermediate championship, under the lights at Healy Park.
Tomas Carney was in outstanding form, finishing the contest with 1-6. Carney kicked four of Derrylaughan’s opening five scores as they recovered from a disastrous start after Termon kicked 1-4 without reply inside the opening ten minutes. The goal arrived in the 10th minute when Daire McDaid’s effort dropped short, and Patrick Fegan flicked it to the net. Remarkably, this proved to be Termon’s final score of the half as Derrylaughan finally found their feet and seven unanswered points left the sides level at the interval.

The second half began similarly to the opening period. John James Sweeney and Jack Alcorn both registered their second points of the evening as the Donegal men opened up a two point lead. Carney halved the deficit with 20 minutes remaining before he punched to the net after good approach work from Brian Kennedy and James Donnelly. The goal gave the Barrys the lead for the first time, and they pulled clear in the final quarter with Carney kicking his second 45 and Ciaran Gervin scoring a point after an impressive introduction from the bench.
A youthful Termon ran out of ideas, and Derrylaughan comfortably dealt with the high balls launched towards the square. Ciaran Quinn finishing the scoring for the loughshore men.
A quick turnaround awaits Derrylaughan as they back in action next weekend against Antrim champions All Saints, Ballymena.
