Derrylaughan Great Passes Away

The GAA, Ulster GAA, Tyrone and more especially Derrylaughan Kevin Barry’s are in mourning today following the sad loss of GAA stalwart Brian McLernon.

Brian acted as President of the Derrylaughan club in recent times which was a fitting tribute to a man who immersed himself fully in the GAA right up to the highest level.

An illustrious playing career included the capturing of an O’Neill Cup in 1967 when Brian lined out alongside his brothers Joey and Enda. At the same time Brian acted as club secretary before he quietly moved on to the role of Ulster Council delegate with Tyrone GAA. This would lead to him taking on the role of Ulster Vice Chairman in 1989 and President between 1992 and 1994.

In a very fitting tribute from the Derrylaughan club they so correctly described Brian as “a figure who shaped the community and shaped the club in a quiet and unassuming manner. He offered leadership when times were tough and through his actions inspired those around him. His legacy is the club as it exists today and everyone involved with Derrylaughan Kevin Barrys is thankful for that.”

TTM wish to pass on our sympathy to his wife Elizabeth, children Damien, Dympna, Roisin, Breige, Oliver and Michael, sister May, and his brother Enda and Joey.
