Derrytresk Did Their Club, Their Community And Their County Proud.
Derrytresk came up just short this afternoon as they lost out to Clonbur by a point in Croke Park. On a day that had started so well and promised so much the pain and heartbreak of this agonising defeat will live long in the memories of the men and women from the hill. The Tyrone and Ulster champions came into this game hamstrung by the sanctions imposed by the CCC and in the end the lack of resources ultimately cost them the game. Derrytresk were magnificent in their approach to the game as they strained every muscle in search of victory. Their work rate was phenomenal but they ran out of steam and ideas in the closing minutes as Clonbur drew level and eventually landed the winning score.
The men from the hill were distraught at the final whistle and tears of heartache flowed freely as their fantastic odyssey finally ended. Some will feel that by coming up short in the final they failed but nothing could be further from the truth. This team, this club have been nothing short of magnificent in their great run and carried themselves with great dignity in spite of the rubbish that was written and spoken about them by sections of the media who really ought to know better. It seems some people however are still intent on making judgements and doing down the achievements of the club while at the same time poking fun and making light of much more serious incidents at one of today’s games. Instead of pontificating on Derrytresk’s narrow defeat perhaps the so called analysts might be better calling for the CCC to review the incidents in Clones today and consider five year bans for the teams judged to be the aggressors.
Nothing however should detract from what was a superb attempt at All Ireland glory akin to climbing Everest. Commiserations on the narrow defeat but congratulations and thanks from all at Teamtalkmag.com for the fantastic football served up and the titles won.
