Derrytresk Through To First Round Proper
Saturday 23.08.2025
Derrytresk are through to a first round proper Junior Championship meeting with Errigal Thirds after a comfortable preliminary round win over Donaghmore Thirds on Saturday.
The double header at Augher saw Derrytresk and Donaghmore Thirds get things under way in the Conolly’s of Moy Junior Championship. After a very competitive hours’ football it was the Hill men who emerged victorious on a final score of Derrytresk 4-14 Donaghmore 1-9.
The league champions began somewhat sluggishly as Donaghmore opened the scoring courtesy of a fine Dermott Mc Aleer point. The Village lads were making things as difficult as possible for their highly rated opponents and by the thirteenth minute Donaghmore had opened up a four point lead 1-4 to a goal. Mc Aleer hit the net while Sean Mc Caul also got his name on the scoresheet.
Derrytresk refused to panic however and landed three goals courtesy of Eoin Mc Nally and a brace of majors from Pat Campbell. Once they had the lead they were never really in danger and by half time they were 3-3 to 1-5 in front.

In the second half Derrytresk’s greater fitness and organisational ability on the field saw them pull away from their opponents with five unanswered points as the Hill Men went through the gears. Ultan Mc Kee, a two pointer from Cathal O’Neill and two points from Ciaran Mc Kee stretched the lead before Dermott Mc Aleer stopped the rot for Donaghmore with a point from distance.
The Village side began to tire and Derrytresk pulled away with points from Conor Fitzgerald and Odhran Hughes and a late goal from Liam Slater. Donaghmore replied with points from Conal Heron and Caolan Quinn but it was a case of too little too late and Derrytresk deservedly made it through to the first round proper on a final score of 4-14 to 1-9.
Derrytresk Scorers: Eoin Mc Nally 1-2, Pat Campbell 2-1, Liam Slater 1-1, Ultan Mc Kee 0-2, Cathal O’Neill 0-3, Ciaran Mc Kee 0-2, Conor Fitzgerald 0-2, Odhran Hughes 0-1,
Donaghmore Scorers: Dermott Mc Aleer 1-4, Sean Mc Caul 0-2, Aodhan Molloy 0-1, Caolan Quinn 0-1 and Conal Heron 0-1
