Derrytresk Win League Title

Derrytresk claimed the first league honours of the season when they got the better of their nearest challengers Tattyreagh on Friday night after a highly entertaining clash at the top of Division 3B.
Tattyreagh raced into an early 1-4 to 0-0 lead with Gareth Mimnagh hitting the net and points from Ronan Collins, Eoin Mc Grath and Niall Murray. Derrytresk were rattled but they weathered the storm and by the fifteenth minute they had the gap down to a single point as Niall Gavin, Cathal O’Neill and Liam Slater drove the Hill Men forward.
Tattyreagh were awarded a penalty after a foul on Gareth Mimnagh and Keely Mc Donagh put them four ahead again. The pace of the game was unrelenting as both teams battled for supremacy. The Tatts hit the net for the third time courtesy of Mc Donagh but Derrytresk finished the half strongly with points from Liam Slater, Cathal O’Neill and Niall Gavin. Joe Cartin pointed for the Tatts but Eoin Mc Nally burst through and took a pass from Cathal O’Neill before finishing to the net on the stroke of half time.
Half time score: Tattyreagh 3-7, Derrytresk 2-8
The second half began with an early point from the impressive Odhran Hughes before Ronan Collins pointed for the Tatts. Derrytresk hit five out of the next six points courtesy of Niall Gavin and Hughes as the visitors threatened to take control.
Tattyreagh were finding it difficult to get scores as the Derrytresk defence held firm. With twelve minutes remaining the home side trailed 2-17 to 3-9. Liam Slater and Ronan Collins swapped points before a two pointer and a single point from Keely Mc Donagh reduced the gap two points. Tattyreagh went for broke and came very close to getting the goal they needed to snatch the win and Derrytresk deservedly held out for the win and the title on a final score of Derrytresk 2-18, Tattyreagh 3-13.
