Derrytresk’s Niall Gavin Answers Back
Tuesday 14.04.2020
Two memories that stick out are a primary school tournament in Stewarstown PS and going with Derrytresk 10s to a game and everyone going in the back of a van.
My family would all have played GAA, Father would have played with Derrytresk, Uncles as-well, Been managed a few times by father and uncle at different age groups over the years. All the siblings play for Derrytresk other than youngest sister Orlagh she’s up kicking at Clonoe.
Lucky to win Tyrone & Ulster junior championship with two brothers on the team. Orlagh maybe leading the bragging rights in the house with most success. In recent years nice to have 4 of us all playing on the same team at senior level.
Played school football right the way through was a sub on a St Josephs team that won a Tyrone title but other than that very little success. Few years on Tyrone vocationals but no silverware.
County – Peter Canavan
I would try my hand at any sport but not great at any either. Bit of 5 aside soccer in the winter months.
Tricky one I’ve had a lot of tough opponents over the years between Div 3 & 2, recent times Dean McNally Kildress last year in championship very physical strong player. Also give a mention to my own club mate Kevin Campbell plenty of tussles at training, many a nights going home with the jersey ripped.
As most people will say Peter Canavan, Colm Cooper, also big fan ofMichael Murphy.
Definitely not, the advanced mark rule is ridiculous in my opinion.
Leave it be for a while, with all the changes made, the next change they will have to make is a second referee to keep up.
They have a role in developing talented players to a high standard, but as long as it doesn’t take any young player away from their club training or games when they should be there instead.
I’ve been involved over the years with coaching, previously with the minor teams. I try and help out as much as possible.
It’s everything in a small wee area like ours.
