Tyrone suffered a disappointing defeat in their opening Ulster minor league game when they were well beaten by Cavan at Garvaghey on Saturday afternoon. The game was played in a blizzard of snow throughout with the visitors thoroughly deserving winners.

Tyrone had the wind at their backs in the first half but despite having the better of things in terms of possession all they could manage was four first half points and that was never going to be enough. Ruairi Canavan hit three points with Patrick McCann also on traget. Cavan failed to score in the first half but unfortunately Tyrone did likewise in the second period.

Defender Cormac McKeogh opened Cavan’s account within sixty seconds of the restart and they never looked back. Daire Madden and Sean Og McGearty both scored goals within three minutes of each other and Madden and Shane Tynan tagged on points as Cavan ran out emphatic 2-10 to 0-4 winners.
