Last season Castlederg struggled to get a league win as they found the demands of league football a tough ask for a very young and developing side. They produced some decent spells of football but ultimately came up short when it came to league wins and points on the table.

What a difference a year makes as the Derg are now sitting two wins from three starts following Friday night’s home victory over a more than decent Errigal Thirds team. This was a close and competitive game for long periods as a Corin Mc Connell (4) inspired Derg team deservedly reached the break leading 3-6 to 1-6. Mc Connell finished with 1-7 out of his team’s tally of 4-11 while Darren Traynor, Eoin Devine, Jack Ramsey and Paddy Porter were also among the first half Derg scorers. Paddy Porter’s goal right on the stroke of half time proved to be a key score as the home side left the field six points clear at the break.

Errigal remained in the game for long periods with veterans Davy Harte and Damien Mc Dermott leading the charge ably assisted by   Senan Canavan and Aaron Mc Kenna. The Dunmoyle based side created several excellent scoring chances but failure to capitalise on these proved costly at the in the final outcome. A second half scoring return of 1-3 tells its own story as Blane Lynch, Jack Ramsey and Andy Crean shut up shop for the Derg.

Final score: Castlederg 4-11, Errigal Thirds 2-9
