Saturday 25.07.2020
North Tyrone neighbours and rivals Urney and Castlederg battled hard before finishing level 1-12 apiece in their Division Three All County League encounter on Sunday. Shane Carlin, Matthew Traynor, Mark Corry and Adam Traynor were on target as the sides reached the break with Urney leading 0-6 to 0-5. Jamie Mc Aleer was scorer in chief for Urney hitting five out of six of his team’s first half points. Former Tyrone star Johnny Lafferty, who was clearly carrying an injury throughout the game also managed to get his name on the first half scoring list. He was forced to leave the field in the second half and his absence was certainly felt by the Urney side. At the start of the second half Jamie Mc Aleer scored a brace to put Urney three clear. Castlederg then lost their captain Bradley Devine to injury but they recovered from that blow and scoring ace Mark Corry hit the net to tie the game. A Darren Traynor point put the Derg in front only for Urney to respond with a PJ Mc Menamin goal and another Jamie Mc Aleer point. With ten minutes left Urney led by three. Castlederg dug deep and Sean Harper (1) and Mark Corry (2) pointed to level the game at 1-12 apiece.
Drumquin made it two wins from two with a fine victory over a disappointing Brocagh side 1-10 to 0-6. Mickey Hughes (3) and Tiernan O’Neill were on target in the first half for the Emmetts but points from Cormac Rodgers, Mattie Mc Dermott, Sean Mc Donagh (2) Pauric Rodgers and Ryan Mc Callion(2) sent the Wolfe Tones in three ahead at the break 0-7 to 0-4. Tiernan O ‘Neill opened the second half scoring for Brocagh to narrow the gap to two but a Cormac Rodgers goal a minute later took the wind from the Brocagh sails. Pierce Mc Girr was outstanding for Drumquin in the half back line preventing numerous Brocagh attacks. Three further points from Drumquin courtesy of Mc Donagh, Mc Dermott and Mc Callion sealed the win and made it two from two for the Wolfe Tones.
Derrytresk ace Niall Gavin hit the net after a minute, and finished with 1-7, against a very young Fintona side to give his team the perfect start but superb defensive play from Eugene Mc Carroll and Conor Magowan curtailed his influence and that of Cathal O’Neill as the Pearses earned a deserved draw at the Hill. The game was nip and tuck throughout the first half with Cathal Starrs hitting four points which helped his team reach the break level 1-4 to 0-7. Aidan Donnelly, Peter Mc Glynn (2) were also on target for the visitors during the opening thirty minutes. A Pauric Kelly point and Cathal Starrs goal put Fintona in a strong position and two further Starrs points had the Pearses 1-10 to 1-8 in front with ten minutes left. Back came Derrytresk with Aidan Gavin, Mickey Robinson and Paul Greville all on target to lead going into injury time. Fintona deserved something from it and they got it when Pauric Kelly stepped up to convert a last minute free and secure a hard fought draw. Final score 1-11 apiece.
Eskra travelled to Killyman on Sunday and came away with a 1-14 to 0-13 win over their hosts. The teams were level four times during a competitive opening thirty minutes and they reached the break with Killyman one in front 0-8 to 0-7. A Joe Mc Carroll goal right at the start of the second half gave Eskra breathing space and they deservedly edged it by four. Enda Mc Gahan hit nine for Killyman while Michael Donnelly, Cathal Mc Gahan, Eamon Donnelly and Owen O’Rourke were also on target. Joe Mc Carroll finished with 1-4 for Eskra while Mickey Woods (2), Niall Marlowe (1), Aaron Kelly (2), Conor O’Hagan (1), Paul Turbitt (1) Johnny Hackett (2) and Cathal Meegan were all among the points for the winners.
A Cathal O’Neill goal early in the second half proved the difference between Glenelly and Drumragh. The sides had been tied at the break on six apiece following Sarsfields points from Shane Cleary (4), Shane Devine and a monster effort from Eamon Mc Cann. Glenelly had led 0-4 to 0-1 following scores from Barry Mc Connell, Rory Kennedy and Ronan O’Kane. A further O’Kane point and one from Seamus Harkin tied the game at the short whistle on six all. O’Neill’s goal changed the dynamic and points from the same player and Cormac Mc Bride, Cathal Nicolas and Tim Harney secured the 1-10 to 0-10 win. Shane Devine (2), Eoin Montgomery and Shane Cleary hit scores first Drumragh but Glenelly held on for the win
It was the clash of the Thirds as Errigal Ciaran met Coalisland in their Division Three clash on Saturday afternoon and emerged victorious after something of a goal fest in the second half. Pio Mc Dermott hit two points in the first half before Ronan Tierney rounded off the scoring for Errigal with 1-1. The Fianna goal came from the penalty spot with John Devine unable to do anything about the well placed kick. The sides went off at the break with Errigal leading 1-3 to 1-2. Errigal threw off the shackles somewhat in the second half after an early Jarlath Harte goal put them in the driving seat. The same player added another goal and with points from Mc Dermott, Pascal Donnelly and Paul Mc Groarty Errigal were well on the way to victory. Conor Quinlivan pointed before Conor Mc Aleer and Paul Mc Groarty added further goals to seal the win for Errigal on a final score of 5-7 to 1-3. Frank Lowe landed 0-2 for Coalisland while Martin Hughes bagged 1-1.
