Owen Roes produced a superb second half come back on the lough shore to recover from being ten points to nil down to win their second game of the season on a score line of 2-9 to 0-11. Brocagh appeared to be in a winning position at the break but Mark O’Neill’s introduction to the game and Cathal Mc Shane’s scoring prowess turned a difficult half time position into two wins from two starts for the O’Neills. Mc Shane hit 2-5 for the winners while Aidan Mc Crossan (0-3) and Andy Devine (0-1) also found the target.
Tattyreagh also made it two wins from two starts with a 2-15 to 1-8 win over a disappointing Glenelly side. Things were close enough in the opening twenty minutes with Eoin Culiinan and Seamus Harkin bagging goals for their respective sides. However in the closing minutes of the first half Tattyreagh edged ahead to reach the break five in front leading 1-9 to 1-4. Among the Tattyreagh scorers in the first half were James Darcy 0-3, Eoin Murray 0-2 and Damien Mc Glone 0-2 while Seamus Harkin was responsible for 1-2 of his team’s 1-4. A Joe Cartin goal in the second half ended any chances of a Glenelly recovery and the home side ended comfortable 2-15 to 1-8 winners.
In a very close game veteran Micky Rea came off the bench to hit 1-2 inside fifteen minutes while Cathal O’Neill scored the winner in injury time as Derrytresk got the better of Fintona. The home side led 1-4 to 0-1 at the break but Derrytresk showed their experience to edge it by the narrowest of margins on a final score of 1-8 to 1-7. Kevin Mc Girr found the net for Fintona while Aaron Mc Carney, Tomas Mc Grath, Eugen Mc Carroll, Pauric Kelly and Niall Donnelly were on target with points.
Aghaloo had three points to spare over a spirited Red Knights side at home following a 0-13 to 0-10 win. The border men led at the break with Tiernan Donnelly proving a handful. He finished top scorer on the day with five points to his name while Ruairi Mc Glone, John O’Neill and Gary O’Gorman were also among the Aghaloo scorers.
Beragh will feel they could have taken something from the game having recovered from a slow start to push Aghaloo all the way. Once again Dan Mc Sorley showed his worth in goals while Chrissie Devlin, Nathan Grimes, Johnny Woods, Marty Rodgers and James Mc Nelis provided the scores. Both teams finished the game with fourteen players.
Rock maintained their good start to the new season with a six point win over Clogher. The foundations for the win were laid in a very impressive first half when the winners built up a 0-9 to 0-1 lead at the break. The Eire Ogs did come back into it in the second half hitting five points but Rock’s experience ensured they took the points as they eased to a 0-12 to 0-6 win. Rock’s scorers on the day were Conor Mc Creesh (0-5), Karl Kolbohm, Aidan Mc Garrirty and Diarmuid Carroll (0-2) each and Martin Mc Creesh (0-1) while Clogher’s points all came from six different players, P Mc Kiernan, M Mc Connell, M Bogue, C Shields, F Mc Kenna and P Tierney.
Clan na Gael were the visitors to Clanabogan on Saturday and came out on the right side of a 1-13 to 1-11 result. The winners were indebted to the accuracy of Danny Ball who accounted for 0-9 of his team’s total while Adrian Ball’s goal ten minutes from the end of the game proved to be a key score.
After a close and competitive first half there was only two points between the sides at the break with the visitors leading 0-8 to 0-6. Marty Lowry landed 1-2 for Drumragh while Shane Cleary and Paul Maguire bagged a brace of points each. However the North Tyrone side was not to be denied and in spite of considerable pressure in the closing minutes from Drumragh Clan na Gael held on for their first win of the season.
