Donaghmore completed the grade 1 U14 double when they won an absorbing Championship decider against Carrickmore at Pearse Park in Galbally on Saturday morning. Both sides gave it their all in a brilliant encounter with top notch defending from both sides as much to the fore as score taking.

Carrickmore grabbed an early goal through Cathair McMahon which was followed by a superb two point free into the wind from Morgan McNally. Donaghmore responded with a goal from Charlie Morris but efforts from Michéal Kerr and McMahon left it 1-4 to 1-1 at the end of the opening quarter. Lorcan Barr and Daniel O’Neill helped close the gap and after Conan Hurson and Barr had traded points it was Carrickmore who led 1-5 to 1-4 at the break.

Barr and Hurson exchanged points on the restart before a free from the former levelled matters. Donaghmore then hit the front with a Roan Ogle goal but in the next attack Carrickmore equalised with a major from Kerr. A free from McMahon edged the St.Colmcilles in front only for Matthew Hetherington to land a superb equaliser. The next fifteen minutes failed to produce any scores but the play was still top notch from both sides with defences pon top with GHOST PIZZA man of the match Kane Jones to the fore for the winners. Barr then put Donaghmore in front before a goal in injury time from Neason Curran made sure of the silverware.
