Donaghmore Cruise to Championship Crown

Donaghmore 4-13 Cookstown 1-5

There was a strong feeling that Donaghmore would be too strong for Cookstown coming into this one and any notion that the St Patrick’s men were going to be pinned down was very quickly swept to the side.  Played on the excellent Stewartstown pitch Donaghmore never look in any trouble.  Right from the opening minute when Conor Cush crashed home the opening goal they took the game by the scruff of the neck and didn’t let go until the half time whistle.

Conall Molloy clipped over his first point of the evening in the second minute and by the fourth minute Cush had found the range twice more to leave the scoreline 1-3 to 0-0.  Donaghmore’s second goal came in the 11^thminute thanks to Molloy and the same player added another 1-1 by the 17^th minute just ahead of a second Conor Cush major to leave the St Patrick’s side 4-4 to 0-0 ahead.  

Another Molloy point was then cancelled out by Cookstown’s opening point in the 24^th minute but Shea McCartan, Mickey Little and Cian McKenna rammed home Donaghmore’s advantage at the game approached the break.  The last score of the opening half was kicked over by Cookstown’s Cormac McVeigh to leave the half time score Donaghmore 4-8 Cookstown 0-2.

Tom Grimes opened the scoring for Donaghmore after the break and his point was added to by Conor Cush in the 34^th minute.  It would take a further eight minutes for Donaghmore to register another Conall Molloy point and another ten minutes after that for the next score to arrive thanks to a long range free off the deck from Mickey Little.  Conor Cush hit Donaghmore’s last point of the game five minutes from time.  It was left to Ronan Devlin, Karol McGuigan and Eoin Donnelly to post points for the Fr Rock’s side and the last kick of the match saw Peter McGurk convert a penalty.  Final Score – Donaghmore 4-13 Cookstown 1-5.
