Donaghmore 1-11 Drumragh 0-5

Donaghmore produced a very commanding and assured display as they lifted the grade two U21 championship title at Healy Park on Sunday afternoon. Drumragh found the pace of their opponents too much to cope with and had Donaghmore been less wasteful in the first half they could have reached the break ten points in front.

The winners started strongly scoring five points inside the opening twelve minutes with Cormac McCann [2], Marcus Mulgrew, Philip Donnelly and Matthew Mc Ilvanna all on target. Drumragh struggled to come to terms with the quality of Donaghmore’s support play and it took fourteen minutes for the Sarsfields to open their account courtesy of full forward Tommy Murphy. The same player added a second with a fine strike off the ground from beyond the 45m line. Deasun Quinn and Murphy swapped points as Donaghmore reached the break 0-6 to 0-3 in front.

Within twenty five seconds of the restart Philip Donnelly had added to Donaghmore’s lead but a lovely point from Sarsfields substitute Tommy Mullin kept Drumragh’s hopes alive. Donaghmore however showed their quality with a Quinn free and a Caolan Mulgrew goal in the 16th minute.

Mulgrew and McCann added further points before senior star Shea Hamill joined the attack to loft over the bar. In the final minute the winners were reduced to fourteen men when Hamill picked up a second yellow card. However the result was well decided by that stage as Donaghmore finished the game convincing nine point winners.
