DEAN Maguirc College lost the final last year to St Joseph’s Crossmaglen but made no mistake this time around.
Playing wind assisted in the first half Bailieborough Community School failed to take advantage of the strong breeze during the first half as the teams reached the break tied at 1-0 apiece.
Niamh McElduff hit the Carrickmore goal six minutes in from a 30 metres free. The Dean kept their opponents at bay until fifteen minutes into the game. Bailieborough captain Siún O’Sullivan levelled the scores midway through the half but they failed to capitalise on the numerous chances they created in the minutes leading up to the break.
Two minutes into the second half and the Dean took the lead following a brace of McElduff pointed frees. The Dean did miss a number of chances before a goalmouth scramble resulted in a goal from the alert Eilís Loughran.
Katie Rose Donnelly and McElduff added before a free from Aoife Grogan was deflected to the net for the third Carrickmore goal.
Best for the Dean were Grace Teague, Caoimhe Kerr and Aobh Bennett at the back, McElduff and Grogan in the middle while the Marley sisters were always a threat up front.
Bailieborough battled hard in the first half with Gina McCabe and Siún O’Sullivan to the fore but in the second half it was a defensive test with Rebecca Clarke and Ellie Halpin to the fore.
Dean Maguirc: N McElduff 1-3 frees, E Loughran 1-0, A Grogan 1-0 free, KR Donnelly 0-1.
Bailieborough: S O’Sullivan 1-0.
