Tyrone IFC Semi Final
Moy 0-6 Greencastle 1-3
A dramatic goal from Conor Carson in the last play of the game saw Greencastle snatch a dramatic draw with Moy in the Intermediate championship semi final at Plunkett Park in Pomeroy on Saturday afternoon. Moy looked as though they had done enough but deep into injury time there was ping pong inside their area and after a number of blocks Carson proved to be the hero.
The swirling wind certainly didn’t help both sets of players but this was a poor contest that never rose to any great heights on a day when both sides failed to play the football that they were capable off. A superb effort from Cahir McCullagh opened the scoring in the 10th minute for wind assisted Greencastle and after a long range Sean Conneely point the only other first half score came in the 3oth minute when Sean Cavanagh did his trademark shimmy before splitting the posts to finally open Moy’s account.
A long range Michael Conroy free levelled matters on the restart but that score was cancelled out by a well struck placed ball at the other end of the field from McCullagh. Team Captain Declan Conroy then showed good leadership to kick a quality equaliser in the 40th minute. We then went a further quarter of an hour without a score before Declan Conroy hit another fine score to put his side in front for the first time. Wing half back Jamie Conroy when weighed in with a splendid effort from out on the right wing and when Michael Conroy scored in injury time it looked all over. Greencastle though refused to accept defeat and after a few blocks Carson was on hand to get that dramatic late equalising goal despite a crowded goalmouth.
