Dromore And Killyclogher Will Have To Do It All Over Again

Games that end 0-5 apiece usually don’t live long in the memory but tonight’s Power NI Senior semi final between Dromore and Killyclogher could well be the difference. Granted it was low scoring and at times lacked real quality but it was the closest most compelling and intense game we have seen in this year’s campaign. Right from the off the hits were big, tough and frequent as both sets of players set about laying down a marker or two. Referee Jerome Mc Elroy had his patience tested several times and issued quite a few yellow cards throughout the hour. Killyclogher produced a very committed defensive display which frustrated Dromore and denied them time and space on the ball. Uncharacteristically Dromore missed several very scorable frees and chances from open play while Killyclogher converted the five scoring chances they created. Their most impressive score being a long range free from Simon O’Neill to draw the sides level with five minutes left.
Overall a draw was probably a fair result on the night as neither team did enough to deserve a win. Dromore will probably feel they had the better of the scoring opportunities and Niall Sludden in particular will wonder just how he managed to miss two great chances from placed balls. There was quite a large crowd there tonight and there is a fair chance most of them will be back for the replay.
