Team Talk Mag

Dromore St Dympnas produced a powerhouse of a second half performance to land the Paddy McLarnon Cup in Creggan on Sunday afternoon. Played in blustery conditions on an excellent Creggan pitch the Dromore men failed to set the world alight in the opening thirty minutes. It was a surprisingly even opening half given the fact that Dromore had a strong wind advantage.

Dromore opened the scoring in the 5th minute through a point from Emmett McNabb. Carryduff struck back within a minute through a 35 metre free from John McGeough. By the 20th minute Dromore had hit another three points from Caolan McCarron, Emmett McNabb and corner back Caolan Slevin to lead 0-4 to 0-2.

It was Carryduff however that outscored Dromore in the closing minutes of the half as two frees from John McGeough and a point from play for Ronan Beatty brought the Down men up to five points. Dromore had Emmett McNabb to thank for their two scores during this period. Half Time : Dromore 0-6 Carryduff 0-5.

Dromore manager Paddy Montague was only married on Saturday afternoon but that didn’t stop him delivering the half time team talk and his words definitely got the reaction Dromore were looking for.

The Tyrone men outscored Carryduff 1-3 to 0-1 in the 25 minutes after the break. Carryduff had equalised in the opening minute with another excellent free from McGeough. However points from McNabb and McCarron were galvanised with a 50th minute Tiernan Sludden goal following an error by Carryduff goalkeeper Darren Ross.

Some excellent defending from Ryan McCusker and Ruairi Teague were backed up by the excellent kickouts and a couple of sharp stops from goalkeeper Mark McGale. Dromore weathered a late onslaught from Carryduff to see the game out with McGeough and man of the match Emmett McNabb trading late frees. Final Score : Dromore 1-9 Carryduff 0-8.
