Dromore defeated Ardboe by five points in this afternoon’s first replay at Edendork in a game that was played in atrocious conditions due to persistent heavy rain. The Loughshore lads had dominated the opening twenty minutes and were 0-4 to 0-1 ahead after twenty minutes with Frank Mc Guigan in super form from play. However the whole dynamic of the game changed shortly afterwards when Conor O’Neill rounded off a fine Dromore move involving Niall Sludden, Emmett O’Neill and Sean O’Neill with a low shot to the net. This score spurred the St Dympnas on and they went in at the break three ahead.
Ardboe started the second half well in terms of territory and possession but had only a point apiece from Tommy Mc Guigan and Kyle Coney to show for their efforts. As so often happens back came Dromore with three points from Eoin Mc Cusker between the 18th and 21st minutes to put his side three ahead again. Ardboe did close the gap with scores from Micky Coleman and Brian Mc Guigan but the game was sealed by a late goal from Niall Sludden which put Dromore six points ahead with less than two minutes of the game remaining. The former county minor showed great composure and presence of mind as he rounded Conor Mc Grath in the Ardboe goals before finishing low to the net. Tempers did get slightly frayed before the end but a late John Mc Conville point was all Ardboe had to show for their endeavours as Dromore made it through to face Omagh in the county semi final on a score of 2-8 to 0-9.
