Drumquin Lift Minor Title
Wednesday 04.07.2018
Drumquin Wolfe Tones lifted the Grade 4 Minor Championship title on Tuesday night after they defeated Tattyreagh 2-15 to 3-8 in a very entertaining match between two well drilled sides.
Team captain Sean Mc Donagh led the way for the winners with a very commanding display hitting 1-5 in the first half as the Tones reached the break leading 1-6 to 0-3. Finucane Glacken hit Drumquin’s other point of the opening thirty minutes while Luke Northern (2) and James Skelton were on target for the Tatts.
The second half began as the first half ended with Mc Donagh to the fore. The teams swapped points early on before Drumquin’s centre forward picked up the ball deep inside his half. He carried it through the Tattyreagh defence before finishing to the net to put his team 2-7 to 0-4 in front.
Credit to Tattyreagh they lifted their game and Luke Northern gave them hope when he finished a fine move to the net. The Tatts were enjoying their best period of the game but Padraic Rodgers, Oisin Mc Menamin and Callum O’Kane defended stoutly as Tattyreagh pushed forward.
Mc Donagh, Rodgers and Gavin Mc Laughlin added points for Drumquin before Ronan Collins gave Tattyreagh late hope with a fine goal. Full forward Luke Northern added a third goal deep in injury time but it was too little too late and Drumquin deservedly lifted the title. The same two sides will meet again later in the summer in the league final.
