Sunday evening’s local derby clash between Omagh and Drumragh turned out to be a very entertaining game in which Drumragh’s ability to force turnovers and take goal chances proved crucial to the outcome of the game.

County senior players Neamh Woods and Joanne Barrett were particularly prominent both in defence and attack setting up numerous counter attacks for the Sarsfields built on the back of good defensive work.

There was little between the teams in the opening fifteen minutes with the sides level on three occasions during that first quarter. All that changed however once Grace O’Neill found the net for Drumragh’s first goal of the match. Emma Collins pointed to narrow the gap but Drumragh were warming to the task and finished the half strongly adding points from Clodagh Loughran and Leah Quinn before Claire Mc Gread finished a fine team move to the net to send Drumragh in at the break leading 2-5 to 0-5.

Omagh needed to start the second half well but although they enjoyed plenty of possession they failed to really test the Drumragh defence. Claire Mc Laughlin, Cobhlaith Mc Kenna and Emma Lynch were outstanding at the back and restricted their opponents to a few long range efforts which sailed harmlessly wide.

Drumragh used the ball well and created many good scoring opportunities but only added 1-5 in the second half. Amy Cox bagged a brace of points while second half sub Brogan Chesters landed her team’s third goal five minutes from the end. Omagh battled right to the last whistle and a late goal from the boot of Christiane Hunter was the least they deserved.

Final Score: Drumragh 3-10, Omagh 1-7.
