Drumragh are through to their first Junior final in twenty one years following a hard fought 0-14 to 1-8 win over Drumquin at Healy Park on Saturday.

Drumquin midfielder Matty Mc Dermott made the most of the wind to open the scoring after three minutes but in spite of starting without key forward Shane Cleary Drumragh responded well with three points in a row inside the next seven minutes to open up a two point lead. Malachy Mc Manus, Shane Devine and Eoin Montgomery were the men on target for the Sarsfields.

Mc Dermott pointed again for The Tones before Sean Mc Donagh tied the game with a point from distance. Padraig Rodgers then came close to finding the net when he capitalised on a poor kick out from Drumragh goalkeeper James Colgan. His attempted chip beat the keeper all hands up but scraped over the crossbar to the relief of the large Drumragh support.

From then until the break Drumragh, playing some good counter attacking football, outscored Drumquin four points to one with Shane Devine, Eoin Montgomery, Tommy Mullin and midfielder Cormac Norris on target while Sean Mc Donagh responded for Drumquin.

Drumquin needed to start the second half well and an early point from Frankie Mc Alynn gave them hope. That hope was somewhat extinguished however when Tommy Mullin and Eoin Montgomery both pointed to leave three points between them with five second half minutes gone.

The Wolfe Tones drove forward at every opportunity and a terrific run and shot from Paul Sheridan drew a fantastic save from Colgan in the Drumragh goal. The goal Drumquin needed however came shortly after when a forty five into the Sarsfields square was not cleared and Cathan Colton capitalised on hesitancy in the Drumragh rearguard to finish to the net. The sides were now level and the momentum was very much with Drumquin. However Eamon Mc Cann managed to put Drumragh in front again with a fine individual score before Tommy Mullin added two terrific long range points to send Drumragh three clear with thirteen minutes remaining.

Padraig Rodgers reduced the gap with his third point of the game but points from substitute Martin Taggart and Shane Devine stretched the Drumragh lead to four. A late point from Ryan Mc Callion gave temporary hope to Drumquin but there was to be no great escape for the Tones and it was Drumragh who advanced to the final of the LCC Junior championship where they will met the winners of the other semi final between Cookstown and Kildress.

Final score: Drumragh 0-14, Drumquin 1-8.
