Drumragh and Dungannon served up a highly entertaining match on Tuesday evening in the Grade 2 Under 21 championship semi final before the Sarsfields emerged victorious on a 3-12 to 4-6 scoreline.

Tommy Murphy was the scorer in chief for the winners but they had heroes all over the field as they fought for every ball particularly late in the game when the Clarkes mounted a sustained come back. James Colgan in goals, the full back line of Eamon Rea, Eamon Kerrigan and Eoin Mc Gread  and the half back trio of Sean Mc Gale, Patrick Colgan and Gareth Mc Gread all emptied the tank in search of victory.

The winners began well building a 1-3 to no score lead inside the opening eleven minutes with Tommy Mullan hitting the net for his team’s opening goal. Dungannon were slow to settle but when Paul Mc Elroy bagged a three pointer for the Clarkes twelve minutes in to the first half the comeback was on. The remainder of the half was nip and tuck but Drumragh’s Tommy Murphy was in superb form and his two goals ensured his team reached the break 3-7 to 2-3 in front. Kevin Campbell scored the second of Dungannon’s first half goals that helped keep them in the game.

The second half was every bit as intense and committed as the first with Dungannon coming more and more into the match. Tiernan Morgan, Matthew Walsh and Paul Mc Elroy really carried the game to Drumragh but big Benny Drumm and Seamus Mc Sorley made sure every ball was hard won around the middle of the field. Once again questions were asked of the Drumragh defence but they stood up well to the strong running of the Dungannon attack. Kevin Campbell hit the net for the Clarkes before Paul Mc Elroy reduced the gap to two points when he converted a harshly awarded penalty in the fifty fifth minute.

With time running out and Dungannon pushing forward Drumragh managed to exploit the spaces in their rearguard and a superb point from Sean Mc Golderick sealed the win for Emmett Gallagher’s well drilled side. Final score Drumragh 3-12, Dungannon 4-6.
