No one can accuse Drumragh Sarsfields as being a club that is stuck in its ways. Always determined and forever inventive, the Clanabogan outfit announces that as part of the annual Sarsfields Club Day on the last Saturday in June (27th), it will attempt to break a Gaelic Football Guinness World Record.

Drumragh will host ‘The Great Game’, aiming to break the world record for the greatest number of people taking part in a Gaelic Football Match.  This will see players from under 8 girls and boys right up to retired footballers take part in one continuous game at their home ground, Clanabogan Park.

“It’s a huge undertaking for the members of one club and we’ll need the help of teams nearby, clubs from further afield in Tyrone and indeed those from neighbouring counties to break the current world record of 399 participants” says Eoin McGread, Event Coordinator.  He continues, “We’ve been kicking this idea around for quite some time, the date is now set, the attempt has been registered with Guinness and Croke Park has been notified. It’s all systems go!”

Clubs throughout Tyrone and Ulster have received an information pack with details of the event including an opportunity for each club to use the record breaking attempt to raise some funds for each of their respective youth teams.

“We will anchor the feat around Lá na gClub, Drumragh’s Day of the Club. So as everyone breaks for the summer, why shouldn’t we in Tyrone break a world record” adds club chairman Adrian O’Kane. “We extend a warm invitation to all those teams and individuals that wish to take part.”

The Great Game is sponsored by Tyrone Truck and Trailer with several other sponsors also on board.

Drumragh Sarsfields is one of the largest clubs in Tyrone and has for the past five years been in the top three in terms of youth membership in the county.
