Jim Gavin, Dubin Senior Football Manager, took time away from some serious preparations for the NFL final to give the Cormac McAnallen leadership Lecture at St Pat’s College Armagh, and at the same officially launch the Campa Chormaic 2014.

The Cormac McAnallen Leadership Lecture is part a series of events commemorating the 10th Anniversary since the death of Cormac McAnallen, the captain of the Tyrone Senior football team in 2004, who died of a rare heart condition.

“It is an honour to attend the Cormac McAnallen Leadership Lecture and address students at the school Cormac attended,” said Jim Gavin.

“He was recognised as a leader both on and off the pitch not only in his native Tyrone, but across the island of Ireland, and he is a true inspiration to the young.”

Campa Chormaic was set up as a living memorial to Cormac, and 10 years after his death, it is the leading Irish language and Gaelic Games summer camp in Ulster, with camps in Antrim, Tyrone, Down and Derry.

“Ten years after his passing, the spirit of Cormac McAnallen is very much alive amongst those who attend Campa Chormaic,” said Pairic Martin, Chairman of Campa Chormaic.

“Coming to St Pat’s College here in Armagh for the launch of this year’s camp, is poignant in that Cormac excelled here both as an academic and as an athlete, studying the Irish language, Irish history and playing Gaelic Games, which is ultimately what Campa Chormaic is all about.”

“Due to increased interest in the Camp this year, we are delighted to extend the Tyrone Camp into Dromore, which gives more young children the chance to learn about our culture and language and participate in Gaelic Games. This year the number of children attending the camp will reach almost 1,000, which is an incredible testament to the memory of Cormac,” added Martin.

The camp runs throughout the summer and further information and application downloads are available from www.campachormaic.com
