A round trip of some 150 miles is hardly the ideal preparation for such an important game but St Patrick’s Dungannon made light of that difficulty as they saw off the challenge of St Eunans Letterkenny and made it through to the quarter finals of the Mac Rory Cup.

Dungannon went into the game as underdogs but produced a superb first half to restrict the Letterkenny lads to just three points while a brace of goals late in the first half from Shea Daly and Ryan Mc Cabe put them in a strong position at the break.

St Eunans did manage to reduce the deficit with a goal five minutes after the restart courtesy of Conor O’Donnell. The Dungannon lads were temporarily knocked off their stride but led by Matthew Mc Cusker and Ronan Duffin a determined second half team display saw them home on a final score of 2-7 to 1-6.
