The first of the 2014 Tyrone Attic Stairs GAA Handball Championship Finals took place in Loughmacrory on Friday evening with Breacach’s Eamon McCrory going one better than his league challenge. Having finished runner-up in the Division 2 League, McCrory produced a determined display with excellent passing and retrieving to deny Carrickmore’s Ruairi Grogan in the Junior Championship decider. The first game was a real see-saw encounter with Grogan leading 5-0 before McCrory went 10-5 ahead. Grogan then came back to lead 15-11 and the outcome remained very much in the balance until some excellent rallies saw McCrory take game one 21-19.
The second produced a similar pattern with McCrory opening up a 17-9 lead before a gallant comeback by the Carrickmore player saw him close the gap to 17-19. It was Breacach’s evening though and Eamon McCrory closed out the tie to claim the new Junior Championship Cup by 21-17. Tyrone Attic Stairs’ Kevin McCrystal presented the first of the Adult Championship Cups to be handed over in 2014.
