Edendork St Malachy’s are the 2026 Tyrone Grade 3 Minor League champions following a thrilling game of football played on a fantastic pitch at Eire Og on Wednesday night.  The game was in the balance right up to the last seconds and whilst Edendork walked away with the trophy Owen Roes can feel rightly proud of their efforts with a chance to land championship honours in the coming days.

Oisin Kelly opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a beautifully struck two point free off the deck. Edendork took the lead for the first time in the game in the 5th minute as John McLernon pounced on a scramble ball in the small square and clipped it into the net.

McLernon hit his first point of the game a minute later and that was followed another point from the Edendork full forward in the 9th minute.  By the 10th minute John McLernon had Edendork five points to the good as he landed a peach of a two pointer from play.  Jamie Boyle extended the advantage to six points in 11th minute and the St Malachy’s men were threatening to pull away. Owen Roes man Luke Doherty was having none of it and showed strength and awareness to turn a long ball into the Edendork net to reduce the deficit to three points.

Jack McCrossan scored Owen Roes next point ahead of a Patsy Cullen point for Edendork ahead of the quarter hour mark.  By the 17th minute points from Shea Houston and Jack McCrossan left the scoreline Edendork 1-6 Owen Roes 1-5.

Two John McLernon points either side of a Jack McCrossan free left two points between the sides heading into the final minute of the opening half. Liam Jordan would have the last say in that half to put Edendork three points up at the break.  Half time – Edendork 1-9 Owen Roes 1-6.

The scores were a little harder to come by in the opening five minutes of the second half and it was Owen Roes who opened the scoring in the 35th minute thanks to a Jack McCrossan free. Edendork’s Aaron Devlin cancelled that one out in the 36th minute and in the 38th minute John McLernon landed what would prove to be Edendork’s last point of the game.

Owen Roes hit the second goal of the contest in the 39th minute. Shea Houston powering in to turn the ball to the net from a fist pass across the goalmouth.  By the 41st minute the men from Owen Roes were in control of the game as Jack McCrossan landed a two point free to go one point up.

Eight minutes past without another score and when it came it was thanks to another mesmerising run from John McLernon and smart finish to the Owen Roes net.  Edendork 2-11 Owen Roes 2-9.  By the 57th minute Owen Roes were level thanks to points from Luke Doherty and Ryan Caulfield.

The turning point in the closing stages came in the 58th minute. Owen Roes looked to be on route to another goal but the ball was intercepted by Edendork goalkeeper Patrick Harvey and less than thirty seconds later thanks to a superb team move involving Tom McGuckin, Ben McGeary, Eoghan McAleer and Aidan Laamrani the ball was rifled to the Owen Roes net by Laamrani.
