Tyrone Under 16 Grade 3 League Final
Edendork 1-12 Castlederg 1-11

It took a last minute wonder point off the boot of Edendork midfielder Logan O’Connor to land the spoils for Edendork in Beragh on Saturday morning after a pulsating encounter that ebbed and flowed throughout a wonderful game of football.

Conan Donaghy opened the scoring for Castlederg and Oisin Harvey doubled the advantage inside the opening nine minutes during which time Edendork missed an excellent goal chance, Finn O’Connor firing narrowly wide after an excellent run.  The St Malachy’s lads did find a major in the 11th minute however as Aidan McCullough smashed the ball of the underside of the crossbar and into the net.  By the 16th minute Eamon Jordan had the St Malachy’s lead out to two points with a nice point from play.

Two Conan Donaghy points for Castlederg, one from a free due to breach of the three man rule and a second following a foul had the Derg back on terms by the 23rd minute and indeed they took the lead for the second time in the game a minute later as Aodhan Gallagher fired over from play.

Logan O’Connor got his first point of the contest in the 26th minute from play and three minutes later he fired over a 45 to ease Edendork back ahead.  Castlederg’s Lorcan McHugh landed a 31st minute free to conclude the first half scoring.  Half Time – Edendork 1-3 Castlederg 0-6.

Charlie Coney opened the scoring in the second half.  The Edendork wing half backs shot ricocheted off the Castlederg goalkeeping and over the bar.  Castlederg were level with in two minutes thanks to a sideline disagreement with the referee which resulted in a 20 metre free in front of the posts.  Converted by Conan Donaghy.  Sides level again.  Logan O’Connor’s 36th minute point from a free was wiped out again by Castlederg,  This time Caidan Harold firing over from play.  Logan O’Connor was on target for Edendork in the 44th minute from an excellent free out on the left but that score was to spark a Castederg fightback.

A superb team move resulted in a goal for Ashton Hoynes and the same player ended up firing over a point a minute later to extend the lead to three. Castlederg looked like they were pushing for home and that looked even more likely the case as substitute Nathan Glackin and Caidan Harold fired over.

Edendork had other ideas.  A Finn O’Connor free was followed up by an Eamon Jordan point from play and as the game edged towards the end of normal. time Logan O’Connor landed two frees to cut the deficit to one point.  The stage was set for midfielder and man of the match Logan O’Connor to land a two point free off the deck to win the game in injury time.
