Edendork 2-15 Clogher 1-6

The curse of the water break as far as Clogher are concerned.  The Eire Og’s had led 0-5 to 0-2 by the first water break but they would only score twice in the remaining 45 minutes as Edendork booked their spot in the last eight of this year’s Intermediate Championship.

Clogher had started the brighter of the two sides and raced into a three point lead thanks to scores from Ryan McCaughey, Ciaran Shields, Marc McConnell and Ciaran Bogue.  Edendork were second best to most of the early exchanges and only had a Darren McCurry and Niall Morgan free to show for their efforts by the 15 minute mark.

McCaughey added his second point from play after the first water break but it was Edendork that finished the opening half the stronger.  First Harry Og Conlon hit their first point from play in the 26th minute and that was followed by a second point from Conlon one from wing half forward Daire Conway. Christopher McCurry drew the sides level approaching the short whistle but it was brother Darren that put Edendork in ahead at the break with a close range free.  Edendork 0-7 Clogher 0-6.

The second half was one way traffic.  Edendork dominated the midfield battle and drove on with points from Harry Og Conlon, Darren McCurry and a thumping long range free off the boot of county goalkeeper Niall Morgan.  By the second water break they had extended that advantage to six points as Daire Conway kicked a point from play and McCurry converted a 40 metre free.

Things didn’t get much better for the Eire Og’s in the last quarter as Edendork got their first goal neatly punch to the net by Cain Ferguson.  McCurry, Jake Ferguson and Stephen Corr all split the uprights in the last few minutes before Clogher troubled the scoreboard operator one more time with a well taken Mark Bogue goal.

Edendork completed the job with a goal of their own in the second minute of injury time thanks to a Ruairi Conlon goal clipped neatly into the Clogher net.   Final Score – Edendork 2-15 Clogher 1-6
