The final championship title for 2012 was contested on Saturday past, when Éire Óg and Eglish played out a thrilling match in the under 16  Eileen Coney cup final. Both teams had a huge number of county players on their squads and the talented young camogs produced top class displays.

The game began at a high tempo from both sides. Eglish worked the sliotar well and were able to take some long range efforts resulting in some deserved points. Éire Óg remained resolute in defence and their goal keeper made some heroic saves. The Carrickmore based girls battled on in the first half and scored a goal that narrowed the gap in scores at half time.

The second half was much the same as the first with Eglish applying the pressure and Éire Óg soaking it up as best they could. In the end after the teams traded points it was Eglish who prevailed to lift the title. The proud Eglish captain Meghan Fox was presented with the cup by Roisin O’Neill. The player of the final went to Seana Grogan of Éire Óg for her superb efforts in defence. Seana was presented with a crested camogie bag by Eileen McArdle of the Tyrone county camogie board.

This was a first for camogie at the Stewartstown Harps GAC when they hosted the final. The match was played on the new pitch which was in excellent condition. Tyrone Camogie would like to extend a big vote of thanks to all at the club for the use of their facilities and also to all the staff who made everyone feel welcome on the day.
