Eglish retained their Ulster Intermediate title but they were made fight all the way by a superb Clonduff team in a very entertaining game at Granemore on Saturday.

In a close opening thirty minutes the Tyrone champs played into the strong breeze. They fell behind to a second minute point from Karen Haughey but found themselves 1-1 to 0-1 in front on seven minutes following a point from a 45 by Ciara Donnelly and a superb goal from Leanne Donnelly.

Clonduff were beginning to create chances but full backs Julie Lagan and Laura Mason worked hard to deal with the threat. A fine point from Cassie Fitzpatrick was quickly followed by a fortuitous Clonduff goal when an attempted shot from Karen Haughey struck the foot of an Eglish defender before ending up in the back of the net.

Eglish kept their composure and added points from Ciara and Leanne Donnelly and Shauna Jordan to lead by two. However three fine frees from the stick of Paula Gribben ensured the sides went in level at the break tied on 1-5 apiece.

Playing wind assisted in the second half Eglish started strongly but were rocked back on their heels when Orla Gribben scored a fantastic goal out of nothing.

Once again Eglish responded with points from Ciara Donnelly (2) and Shauna Jordan. The sides swapped points again before Clonduff sub Elizabeth Watson rattled the ball off the crossbar when through one on one with Eglish goalkeeper Leona Gallagher.

Paula Gribben put Clonduff in front again as the game entered the closing seven minutes. Eglish drew level with a lovely score from sub Niamh Mc Nulty. Both sides threw everything into the closing minutes but two fantastic scores from Leanne Donnelly and Ciara Donnelly ensured the three in a row was achieved on a final score of 1-14 to 2-9.
