There was a familiar match up for the Ulster Intermediate Camogie final with Clonduff and Eglish meeting in a rematch of the delayed 2020 game which was won by the Tyrone champions. Eglish were missing a few key players due to injury but after an impressive run this year were hoping for a similar result to that match.

Clonduff began on the front foot with two efforts both saved by veteran goalkeeper Julie Lagan before the Down star Paula O’Hagan converted a forty five to open the scoring. There was little between the teams throughout the first half with both defences being made to work hard.

Ciara Geoghegan took a score from her sister Leanne Donnelly’s free as Grace Daly, normally in defence, pointed to edge Eglish into the lead.

Dissent in the Clonduff defence led to the referee moving the ball forward and within range. Eglish capitalised on their good fortune when Casey Gallagher flicked into the back of their opponents’ net.

Geoghegan pointed to stretch the lead to three points again but Eglish were rocked back on their heels by a Sarah Louise Gaffin goal in the dying seconds of the first period.

Half time: Eglish 1-5 Clonduff 1-5

The second half was hotly contested with an early Clonduff penalty hitting the bar. It took eleven minutes before the Down champions got a score.

Eglish found themselves under extreme pressure with team captain Ciara McMullan impressive but a young Eglish side were up against much more physical opponents.

The Tyrone champions may feel slightly aggrieved at the awarding of some frees but with player of the match Paula O’Hagan in imperious form there was no denying Clonduff as they emerged deserving winners.
