Tyrone Senior Camogie Championship 22

Last year’s senior championship winners Eglish met with last year’s Ulster junior b title holders Derrylaughan in the 2022 senior final at Edendork.

Ciara Donnelly sent over the first score of the game from a 45 followed quickly by a Cliona Goodfellow effort from a sharp angle. Derrylaughan were having to work hard in defence particularly full back Emma Donnelly but any forward movement by them was generally dealt with swiftly by their opponents.

Full forward Elisha Gervin got the loughscore team’s first score from a free but Eglish showed their class when the Donnelly sisters combined and Leanne Donnelly passed to her sister Ciara who hit the back of the net.

Derrylaughan managed to work the ball up the field, but the experienced Julie Lagan dealt easily with the resultant shot. As the game became more physical, Emma McAliskey set up Gervin who took the point. Eglish took advantage of some loose tackling by Derrylaughan and the ever-reliable Ciara Donnelly punished them on the scoreboard.

Derrylaughan’s Ella Carney converted a long range free while Elisha Gervin scored their last point of the first half.

Player of the match Aisling Donnelly controlled a lot of ball in the first half and was instrumental in keeping the pressure on Derrylaughan. The Barry’s sister duo Orla and Emma Donnelly both stopped goal bound efforts but Leanne Donnelly and Shauna Kelly rounded off the first half scoring to send Eglish in at the break 1-11 to 0-4 up.

When the teams came out again the light had dropped considerably. Despite the best efforts of Derrylaughan, particularly the Donnelly sisters and Gervin, who scored another 1-1, Eglish were just too strong and far too polished. Ciara Donnelly scored both from play and frees. Kaitlin Gallagher created and finished some fine scores in the second half.

Unsurprisingly Eglish ran out once again deserved senior championship winners.
