Minor Championship Cup Final

The recent camogie finals have been very competitive and Monday night’s Minor Cup Championship between Eglish and Omagh was no exception. It was fitting that the teams were led by the county minor joint captains Oilibhia Farley and Áine Cunningham respectively. Both players were leaders on the field and demonstrated plenty of skill, speed and scoring ability.

Omagh suffered an injury in the first few minutes but took the first score of the evening from Emer Cunningham. Eglish midfielder Kate Daly levelled but after the Omagh defence cleared the ball their captain scored before Eglish’s Rhianne McLoughlin hit the net.

The remainder of the half  saw end-to-end action and while both defences remained on top there was plenty of skill on view the Cunninghams and Eglish’s Amy Holmes were able to make the long range shots count.

Half time Omagh 0-7 Eglish 1-5

After the break, Eglish found themselves on top and their defence led by Emma Conroy took charge of any Omagh attack. Farley, who gained well-deserved recognition as player of the final, cut through the Omagh  defence with ease and made the most of every drive forward. Shauna Mc Crory did her best to inspire Omagh to make a fightback and while they got two late goals from Aine Cunningham and Cara Mc Crory it wasn’t enough to prevent Eglish from going away with the honours on a scoreline of 3-14 to 2-8

Omagh scorers: E Cunningham 0-2, Á Cunningham 1-6, C Mc Crory 1-0

Eglish scorers: K Daly 0-1, R McLoughlin 2-1, A Holmes 0-4, O Farley 0-7, E Holmes 0-1, G McKenna 1-0,
