Eglish and Edendork served up a super game of Camogie on Friday night at the home of Dungannon Eoghan Ruadh before Eglish prevailed and claimed the Eileen Coney Cup on a score line of 0-16 to 2-9. Both teams produced several superb individual displays but it was the overall team performances that made it such a memorable game.

Kaitlin Gallagher, who was the outstanding player on the field, opened the scoring for Eglish inside the first two minutes with the first of her nine points of the game. Edendork responded almost immediately with a fine goal from the industrious Eva Cullen. However points from Gallagher and Kate Daly for Eglish had the game tied with just over five minutes on the clock.

Bronagh Moohan added a great point to put Edendork in front again but Eglish began to get on top around the middle of the field and points from Rhiannon Mc Laughlin and Emma Holmes edged them ahead. A strong run and fine finish from Lára Devlin levelled things once more before Eglish moved ahead again with a point from Ellen Rose Murtagh. Devlin sent over her second point of the game to tie the scores once more before a stinging Eva Cullen shot was superbly turned away by Sienna Gildernew in the Eglish goals. Indeed both goalkeepers, Gildernew and Olivia Mc Guinness were outstanding for their teams throughout the contest.

With half time rapidly approaching Kaitlin Gallagher and Emma Holmes pointed to make it a two point game but once more Edendork dug deep and another excellent score from Lára Devlin sent the teams off at the break with Eglish leading 0-8 to 1-4.

The pattern of continuous end to end play was maintained throughout the second half with both teams working hard and battling for every ball. A converted Gallagher free put Eglish two clear before a storming run from Devlin finished with a memorable goal to put Edendork 2-4 to 0-9 ahead. Points from Bronagh Moohan and Orla Cullen extended the lead to three as Edendork appeared set to take control.

Eglish showed great character and points from Gallagher (2) and Olibhia Farley tied the game once more just before the teams broke for the second water break. The pace remained relentless and both teams missed chances to add to their tally. Gallagher sent over two further points to put Eglish in the clear but once more Lára Devlin showed all her skill and craft with a brace of fine scores to level it again.

With the game entering the last five minutes Eglish moved ahead after a well worked score from Rhiannon Mc Laughlin but who else but Devlin popped up to equalise once more. Just when it seemed extra time would be required player of the match Kaitlin Gallagher landed the winning score.

Credit to both teams for producing a superb game of Camogie and Eoghan Ruadh for hosting the game so efficiently while match referee Rebecca Barker was excellent throughout.

Final score Eglish 0-16, Edendork 2-9
