Sunday 01.12.2024
Twenty years after they were first formed Carrickmore Eire Óg camogie side claimed the Bridie Mc Menamin Shield following an impressive 1-13 to 0-7 win over a talented Greenlough side. The Derry girls battled right to the end before losing out to an impressive Tyrone outfit.

Led by the the recently crowned Teamtalkmag senior Camogie player of the year Aoibhinn Daly Eire Óg took the game to their opponents inside the opening minutes with points from Daly (2) and centre back Ailise Coyle to put them three clear. Playing into the wind it was the perfect start to the game for the home side as they got to the rhythm of the game from early on. In spite of this Greenlough found their feet with a brace of converted frees from the stick of Conla Kerr and a point from a missed penalty. The sides went in at the break with Eire Óg leading by one 0-4 to 0-3.

The second half saw the home side really get to the pace of the game with dual star Sorcha Gormley and Daly to the fore. Seven points from the stick of Daly and a fortuitous goal from Gormley had Eire Óg nine clear with twelve minutes remaining.
Greenlough to their credit battled right to the end but in spite of the accuracy of Conla Kerr they were unable to close the gap sufficiently and Eire Óg pulled away to win comfortably 1-13 to 0-7.
