Eire Og Through To Senior Hurling Decider

Inspired by a superb display of point taking from John Kerr and Aidan Kelly, Eire Og hurlers powered to the Power NI Tyrone senior hurling final with a 2-16 to 2-5 win over Naomh Colmcille at Healy Park. Always in control the Carrickmore based side at times played some very good hurling but with Rory O’Neill and Shea McKiver keeping the East Tyrone side on their tails this was far from being clear cut for long periods. Naomh Colmcille were disappointed by their performance on the night having failed to bring their “A” game and in turn were punished by a well drilled Eire Og side.
An early Bryan McGurk goal saw the “Cillies” playing catch up and they managed a solitary point in the opening twenty eight minutes with O’Hagan on target as Kerr 0-3, Begley, Slane and Kelly found the target for Eire Og. Mc Kiver scored a late goal for Naomh Colm Cille and O ‘Hagan added a point to leave it 1-8 to 1-2 at the break.
Normal service was resumed for Eire Og just after the restart as Kelly, superb at midfield with Gary Fox latched on 0-4 as Kerr also hit a point. The East Tyrone men refused to accept that they were out of it though and persistence and determination produced a deserved goal. Rory O’Neill’s effort hit the post but somehow the experienced forward still managed to turn the sliothar home to leave six between the sides with the final quarter approaching.
However Eire Og kicked on though and still had more in the tank as Leigh Moore, Damien Maguire and Sean Paul Begley finally closed the door on the Cilles threat. John Kerr (0-2) and McKernan wrapped up the point tally as Dermott Begley finished crisply to the net to seal their place in yet another senior final.
A strong quality performance from John Crossey’s side who now face their oldest rivals Dungannon Eoghan Ruaidh in the decider.
Naomh Colmcille now face Shamrocks in the junior final after they eased past Cappagh Gaels 2-16 to 0-5.
