Clogher 1-24 Donagh 3-13

Clogher’s journey continues after they got the better of Donagh at St.Tiernachs Park in Clones on Saturday afternoon to qualify for the Ulster Junior Final.

It was a contest that required extra time to decide after the Fermanagh champions had produced an impressive second half display to come from seven points down at the break. Once again the twin threat of Marc McConnell and Ciaran Bogue were to the fore for the Eire Ogs hitting 0-8 and 0-6 respectively with team Captain Conor Shields weighing in with 0-4, three of which came in extra time and Sean Bogue and Ryan McCaughey getting a trio of scores each.

A few superb McConnell points as well as efforts from Ciaran Bogue and Shields had the Tyrone champions 0-10 to 0-1 in front as the interval approached before Donagh had the last two scores of the half from Eamon Maguire and Johnny O’Reilly.

McCaughey and Thomas Cadden traded points on the restart before Donagh got right back in the game in the 42nd minute when Daire Treacy found the net. Points from Sean Bogue, Ciaran Bogue and McConnell cancelled that out but Donagh were much improved. Brian McDermott and Maguire had points before the latter got their second goal five minutes from time. The momentum was now all with Donagh and when substitute Ruairi Mulligan palmed to the net in the 29th minute they were in front. Two minutes later Clogher substitute Finbarr McCaughey scored a goal but there was still plenty of drama to come as Cameron McBrien held his nerve to convert a two point free with the last kick of the game to force extra time, 3-10 to 1-16.

In extra time though Clogher were the better side as their opponents visibly tired. Ciaran Bogue, Sean Bogue, Shields and McCaughey all pointed as they held their opponents scoreless in the opening half of extra time. The winners picked up ere they had left of on the restart with Shields, McConnell and Bogue all adding further points and while Donagh had scores from Damian McManus and Maguire it was Clogher who advanced to the decider.
