The opening game in the double bill at Pomeroy on Sunday afternoon brought together Clogher and Brocagh in the Junior championship quarter final and it proved to be a cracking encounter with the Eire Ogs just shading things 0-15 to 1-11 to set up a last four meeting with Clann na Gael.

It was Brocagh who made all the early running as they raced into a 1-4 to 0-2 lead with Mickey Hughes getting their goal and Mickey Carlon and Ciaran Donnelly providing points. Clogher though then hit a purple patch as either side of half time they landed nine points without reply to turn the game on its head, Marc McConnell, Ryan McCaughey, Michael McCaughey and defender Conor Shields among their marksmen.

A Donnelly “45” stopped the rot for the Loughshore men but the superb Shields cancelled that score out. A long range Donnelly free was then allowed to bounce over the bar and when the same player added another placed ball the gap was down to three points. A blistering shot from Carlon was then tipped over the bar by keeper Rory McElroy before Hughes made it a one point game. A Hughes free then levelled things with seven minutes to go and it looked as though Brocagh would push on.

Clogher though dug deep and after Brocagh keeper Peter Maguire had denied Paul Tierney the rebound fell to Marc Bogue who put them back in front. Maguire then thwarted Ryan McCaughey as well before McConnell put Clogher two in front going into injury time. A superb free from Donnelly from out on the left wing closed the gap to the minimum again and the same player had a similar chance with the last kick of the ball but this time he sent his effort wide much to the relief of Clogher.
