Eskra justified their favourites tag to book their place in the quarter final of the LCC Junior championship but they had to stave off a fine Brackaville second half revival at Greencastle on Saturday evening.

The winners had the wind at their backs in the first half and they made it count with Joe McCarroll, Aaron Kelly, Johnny Hackett, Conor O’ Hagan and Ryan Gartland all contributing eye catching points. Brackaville full forward Dale McSorley kicked all four of their first half points and two late scores left them trailing 0-9 to 0-4 at the break.

The Roes had the wind at their backs in the second half and after Gary Ferguson had pointed in the first attack another McSorley free closed the gap further. Eskra kicked a few wides and as nerves set in Brackaville upped the tempo with another McSorley brace closing the gap before Sean McNally sent over the equaliser.

The momentum was all with Brackaville at this stage but they couldn’t get their noses in front as respective keepers Stephen O’Neill and Daire McCarroll pulled off superb saves. It took Eskra twenty four minutes to open their second half account via the excellent McCarroll and the same player quickly tagged on another two points.

With two minutes to go centre half back Hackett put the issue beyond any doubt with a goal and while McSorley found the net with the last kick of the game it was only a consolation score as it finished 1-14 to 1-10.
