Trillick 4-12 Dromore 0-7
Trillick produced an outstanding display at Healy Park on Friday evening as they secured a comprehensive victory over local rivals Dromore in the opening round of the LCC senior championship.
Dromore were shading things in the opening twenty minutes of the game but the St.Macartans closed out the first half in style to establish a 2-5 to 0-5 interval advantage. Lee Brennan opened the scoring for Trillick from play but Dromore were quickly on level terms thanks to a superbly taken free off the ground from the right wing from Emmett McNabb. Mattie Donnelly then placed Ryan Gray who blasted over the bar but by the end of the opening quarter the lead had changed hands after Dromore full forward Ruairi Sludden scored from a free as well as from play.
Trillick keeper Joe Maguire then made a great save to deny Eoin McCusker a goal before a twenty metre free from the latter made it 0-4 to 0-2 in the 20th minute. Sixty seconds later though Trillick had their noses in front when a sweeping move resulted in Rory Brennan blasting the ball to the roof of the Dromore net. Ronan McNabb responded with a brilliant score with the outside of his boot but that proved to be their last of the first half.
Trillick upped the tempo and the scores began to flow. Richard Donnelly kicked one from distance and in the next attack his brother Mattie got on the scoresheet as well from long range. Lee Brennan converted a free before another brilliant move saw James Garrity hammer the ball to the net to leave the Reds in the driving seat.
There was no let up from the winners on the restart as they assumed complete control. Brennan knocked over two frees before Dromore were reduced to fourteen men when keeper Mark McGale was sent off. Brennan and Liam Gray added points with Garrity getting his second goal as they made it 2-8 without reply. Declan McNulty at last opened Dromore’s second half account but Trillick continued to dictate the contest. Brennan and substitute Niall Gormley added points before Daire Gallagher put the icing on the cake with goal number four.
