It may well have only been shadow boxing but Eoghan Ruadh have set down a marker for the Tyrone Senior Hurling Championship final meeting between the two old rivals by collecting the Tyrone League title this evening. Played on the superb Eoghan Ruadh pitch the home side were made to work hard for their victory by an Eire Og side that were well in the game in the opening 30 thirty minutes.

Damian Casey opened the scoring for the home side before his point was cancelled out by Justin Kelly. By the third minute the Dungannon men were three ahead as Kiefer Morgan thumped the ball into the ground and beyond the reaches of Eire Of keeper Conor McElhatton. Eire Og had McElhatton to thank for three or four excellent first half saves. That Morgan goal was Eoghan Ruadh’s last score for 12 minutes as Kelly converted four frees and the excellent Liam Armstrong rushed in for the first of his points from play.

Dungannon regained the lead on the quarter hour mark and didn’t lose it again thanks to a Cormac McHugh mojor following a neat pass from Morgan. Dungannon pushed further ahead with two Casey frees backed up by points from Martin Devlin, Cathal McErlean and Lorcan Devlin. Those scores were interrupted only three times as Liam Armstrong (2) and Sean Og Grogan fired scores for Eire Og. Half Time : Eoghan Ruadh 2-8 Eire Og 0-9.

The scoring dried up significantly in the second half with both sides guilty of some poor shot selection. Dungannon opened the scoring through Josh Ferguson before Damian Casey added a couple of points from frees. Eire Og managed to open their second half scoring though Justin Kelly in the 40th minute thanks to Justin Kelly before Casey landed a bomb of a free in the 45th minute from just inside his own 45 metre line. Two more Casey frees backed up by points from Kiefer Morgan and Matthew Mulgrew left the Dungannon side in a comfortable position. A late consolation goal off the stick of John McGurk wasn’t enough to deny Eoghan Ruadh.

Final Score : Eoghan Ruadh 2-15 Eire Of 1-12

Referee : Gerard Fox (Omagh)
