Eoghan Ruadh Hurlers Lift Shield Title
Sunday 06.10.2019
Eoghan Ruadh retained the Leadon Timber Frame Ulster Minor shield title on Sunday with a convincing 5.16 to 11 points win over Setanta of Donegal.
The men from Dungannon were stronger and had superior stick work over their opponents. Eoghan Ruadh were a goal up after 30 seconds at the start of the game when a long range shot from Cain Ferguson found the net. Ferguson added another final individual goal in between two goals from Rory Weir. Weir’s second goal was the result of four great passes, the final one from Cormac Hughes sending him clear to score.
Setanta replied with only one point in the first half as Dungannon kept the pressure on. Points from Ferguson, Weir, Donaghy, Hughes, Little and MacGinty left the half time score Eoghan Ruadh 4.11 Setanta 0.01.
The Donegal men had the slight breeze in the second half and started well with a point from play for Oisin Marley after one minute. From the resulting poc out Eoghan Ruadh worked the ball to Cormac Hughes for another brilliant goal. The Donegal men kept the pressure on as Dungannon eased off a bit and Marley landed a flurry of long range frees. Stephen McBride and Ruairi Campbell worked hard for the men from the crossroads but the East Tyrone lads chipped away with points from Ferguson, McCann, Weir, Donaghy and McKernan.
Connal and Fionn Devlin were outstanding in the back line for Dungannon as they saw out the game 5.16 to 0.11 winners.
Eoghan Ruadh now play Lavey in the Ulster Semi Final proper. This game is scheduled for Sunday 13th but there is some confusion over this because of the Derry Minor football final involving Lavey and a Camogie game involving the host club Ballinascreen
