Dungannon Eoghan Ruadh retained the Hunky Dory senior hurling crown with an emphatic 0-14 to 1-5 win over their great rivals Carrickmore Eire Og at Healy Park. The win was built on a very disciplined and committed team display but the highlight was the personal return of nine points from the stick of ace marksman Damian Casey.
There was very little between the sides in the opening half with Eire Og just about shading it as they led five points to four with twenty five minutes on the clock. Conor Grogan was proving quite a handful for the Eoghan Ruadh defence at this stage while The Eire Og defence was keeping a close watch on the Dungannon forward line. However man of the match Casey landed two fine scores in the closing minutes of the half to send his team in at the break leading 0-6 to 0-5.
Eoghan Ruadh moved well clear in the second half as Casey continued to punish Eire Og indiscipline. The Dungannon lads held the Carrickmore men scoreless right until the end when a Gary Fox effort finished in the back of the Dungannon net. However it was a case of too little too late and Eoghan Ruadh deservedly retained The Benburb Cup on a final score of 0-14 to 1-5.
Scorers: Eoghan Ruadh: D Casey 0-9, Kiefer Morgan 0-2, Matthew Mulgrew, Cathal Mc Erlane and mark winters 0-1 apiece
Eire Og: Gary fox 1-0, Conor Grogan 0-2, Ciaran Slane 0-2, Sean Og Grogan 0-1.
