Played on a superb surface for Hurling at the new Garvaghey complex, Eoghan Ruadh and Shamrocks began the game at a ferocious pace with Shamrocks getting the first score through Eamon McNamee. However the Dungannon lads settled to the task and with Midfielders Stephen Currie & Luke Ferguson running the show for the next 10minutes Eoghan Ruadh got scores from Scott Herron, youngest player on the field Cain Ferguson & Conor McAleer. Then it was the turn of Strabane’s midfield to get on top, and proceeded to do so for the rest of the game with McNamee & Liam Langan dominating possession the latter knocking over a great score from play.
Shamrocks continuous runs through on goal were dealt with by the Eoghan Ruadh full back line of Matthew Loughran, Sean McGeary and full Back Adam Cullen who had a solid game throughout. Both goalkeepers Eoin McMullen (Dungannon) & Keelin McLoughlin (Strabane) were called into action and pulled off a few superb saves between them. In the closing ten minutes of the half Dungannon managed to break the strong Strabane defence where Aodhan McDaid, Conal Doherty & Conor McGillicudy had been outstanding to poach a couple of majors that sent them in at the break 5-6 to 4pts in front.

Shamrocks began the second half well with scores from McNamee & Langan. Full forward Aaron Harkin scored a great goal after good build up work from Conor Walsh, Paddy McGranaghan & Sean Breslin. The young Dungannon side found it difficult to get to the pace of the game at this stage but replied with a brace of goals to settle them into the half. They built on this and got on top with U12 half-forwards Conall Devlin & Fergal Donaghy winning a high percentage of possession and providing a real platform for Ben Gormley, Ferguson & McAleer to take a few nice scores from play. Dungannon’s half back line also began to find form with Ciaran Ross, Jack Mullen and Ronan Boyle dominating.

Strabane star player McNamee continued to impress with a battling display but his influence was reduced considerably when he was forced into a more defensive role following a sending off. Dungannon capitalised with captain Scott Herron & Ben Gormley knocking over fine scores from play. Sean McGurk, Michael Doherty & Anthony Crossan (Strabane) Shaun Donaghy, Jack Toner, Daryl Comac, Rory Weir & Phillip McGrath were all introduced and competed well, showing the strength in depth of both sides.
There were great celebrations when referee Alan Richardson sounded the final whistle and all that was left to do was for Tyrone CCC’s Ciaran McDaid to present the winning captain Scott Herron the Tyrone Championship trophy to add to the Feile & League titles Dungannon have already received this year.
